Famers Market

7 Apr

So I’ve heard the Farmers Market opens this weekend—GO SUPPORT LOCAL FARMERS!

Their fruits and veggies are better than what you buy in stores. Fewer chemicals and better quality. Not to mention you’ll probably save a few bucks. It’s about that time to start detoxing the body and helping your body function to the best of its ability. You owe it to yourself.

Buy local, live healthy Bowling Green.

Muscular, Not Masculine

VS

As you can see, there is a difference. What’s on the right can’t and won’t happen to you if you get your recommended 30-45 minutes of physical activity most days of the week. It can and will happen to you if you spend 8 hours lifting everyday and shooting up anabolic steroids. What’s on the left can and will happen to you if you regularly exercise and resistance train.

One of the biggest complaints and main concerns of women at a gym are always the fear of becoming bulky and getting “man arms.”  Sure your arms may grow half an inch (if that)  due to the loss of fat and replacement of lean muscle mass, but that growth comes from muscle. Would you rather see your arms get bigger with fat, or bigger with muscle?

Women produce estrogen and very little testosterone, and men produce testosterone and very little estrogen.

Testosterone plays a huge role in building muscle size and since women don’t produce enough of it to cause a concern, you can lift free of fear of becoming the next she-man. You will however, reap the benefits of lifting by  increasing lean muscle mass and decreasing body fat, building strength and endurance, increasing and restoring bone density, and increasing metabolic rate so you burn more calories throughout the day. There are more advantages to resistance training but I’ll save that for a later blog.

So GO! Lift weights and combine that with interval bouts of cardio to maximize your workout and fat burning. You cannot naturally become bulky (if you’re a female) just by hitting the weights. What you can become, is a stronger, more fit individual ready to take on the day and all it brings with it.

Before We Begin

7 Jan

Before we begin it would probably be a good idea to introduce myself. I’m Jessie and I care about YOU!

So with that being said, let’s start with the basics shall we?

Who:

I am a recent graduate student from Western Kentucky University with a bachelor’s degree in Exercise Science. I am currently certified by the American Council on Exercise and AHA CPR & Safety and First Aid certified.

What:

Personal trainer, motivator, encourager, educator, promoter, and challenger.

When:

Upon graduation in May 2010, my internship at Get Toned Fitness Studio rolled over into a job. I train Tuesdays and Thursdays and promote healthy lifestyles and our studio full-time.

Where:

Get Toned Fitness Studio in Bowling Green, Kentucky.

Why:

I am a trainer for many reasons, but the most important reason is because I want to see people do things for themselves to promote a longer, healthier life. I’m not a trainer for me, I’m a trainer because I want to help people. I want to help put an end to the obesity epidemic starting in Bowling Green. I love to see the changes that take place in peoples lives just by taking care of themselves. I believe everyone has the right to be the healthiest version of themselves. This is my drive, and my life.

How:

Growing up I played basketball, softball, and ran track in high school. I was always physically active and knew going into college that I wouldn’t want to study anything that I wouldn’t find interesting (like business). When I found out WKU had an Exercise Science program I became even more excited about college and knew it would be a perfect fit. It wasn’t until after an internship at the hospital my sophomore year of college that I decided personal training was going to be my career choice. Luckily, I was able to get an internship at Get Toned and the rest is history.

Hopefully with this post you have gotten some sense of who I am and you’ll stick around to see what else I have to say about exercise, nutrition, and life. Feel free anytime to message me about topics you’d want to see talked about…I’m always game to help those in need! :)

Stay Tuned and GO TOPS!
